Battle Royal
This was a battle that the mud eel was bound to lose, but the great blue heron doesn't look like a happy camper either.

Oh geez that's cool. Too bad about the heron's feet not being in the frame.

Yea, once the herons and egrets get ahold of something, they do not want to let go.

Great title.

Leann, here is my thought process on the GBH feet in this photo: the story is the battle. Everyone knows the heron has feet, but hardly anyone has seen a heron taking licks from a mud eel. If anything, I probably should have cropped the other way, and just focused on the head and maybe the neck. But I liked the detail on the body a little too much to let it go.

The fight must have been fun to watch. Behind my backyard in the marsh, I watched a GBH give fight to a flounder that was eating size (for a HUMAN!!!). He tried everything he could for over an hour to get him in his throat. He finally dropped it for the last time, made a horrible noise and left! Too bad my fight was too far away for any of my lenses.

I like the unobstructed view of the second image, Philip. Looks like quite the battle!
