Another of the shots I took last week in Northumberland. The squirrel was a bit better positioned for the lighting in this shot, although still not as sharp as I would have liked.
40D + 500mm, ISO 500 at f7.1 for 1/400
Tripod from hide
The Squirrel looks like it's sitting just perfectly in a patch of light which makes it stand out against the background. That, and the greenery beneath gives it a good focal point as well as the two-thirds composition.
Could be a light under-exposed - perhaps it's my screen. None of the whites look too hot here.
I feel like I want to stay still when I look at it.
Now for me this is way above the previous shot ypu posted Magnus. The light on the face and the catchlight in the eye makes a big difference. First class image.

A very nice shot Magnus.
The lighting on this one has worked in your favour creating a "spotlight" on the squirrel and that foot raise makes an already cute animal even more endearing. Just a touch under exposed but this is not really a problem.
Sharpness looks good at this resolution.

Many thanks again for commenting folks.
My monitor isn't formally calibrated but some of the brighter bits of snow were burning out at this exposure so I left it as was
