Love the rear quarter pose David, also captured head turn and detail!

Nice pose and detail here David, the dark tail adds a sense of balance too.

I'd be very happy with this one, David. The catchlight in the eye is very good and the pose is different than the usual Song Sparrow shot. My only suggestion might be to slightly tone down the sharpening on the bird - at least on my laptop lcd it looks a little overdone.
That's a unique perspective for sure, David. I hope you didn't get blasted... Pretty good cuteness factor in the pose with the head turn and the eye contact.
I read your technical data, esp. the ISO, and thought you couldn't be shooting an older Nikon. Congrats on the D700. Had mine out for the first time a couple days ago and am in a state of marveling over it. Bit of a learning curve, though, at least as I get used to it. Still a little intimidated by it...

Nice detail with the high iso. Not so much noise. Nicely shot.

Thanks for the comments. The D700 is a marvel and I am still pushing perceived limits (iso) to see what it does. I haven't been able to shoot in sunlight since I have had it. This was shot from less than 5 feet away. As to the oversharpening, I agree but I will tell you I just did the raw presharpener in Nik 3.0.

David, at least on my crt, there is no appearance of oversharpening at all. I have found this to be typical of crt monitors versus lcd displays when it comes to sharpening. It's almost a battle to know how much to sharpen because it depends on what the people viewing the images are viewing it on.

Great capture of this pose with the bird looking back, and the detail looks great here. (Quite the vent detail there.)
