Hi,
Another trip to see the Short Eared Owls... came away with one image and have not got the images I am after...
Weather didn't really go as forecast and we had quite heavy clouds obscuring the main light source for much of the time
All the best

Aaah its opened this time Phil, it just a hung a couple of times before.... but worth the wait, this is a fine shot, the hunters intense facial expression is most evident too and that adds greatly to the shot.

There's some odd artefacts towards the left of frame Phil but an Nigel says, the facial expression is intense.
Artefacts are in fact grass heads in roughly the same plane of focus as the bird Andy... f10... could say that because I was using manual focus that I used it for a little bit of DoF to compensate for user error, in truth I swapped extenders and forgot that I could open up a little
All the best

Ah - brain fade, I'm REAL familiar with that affliction Phil
What artefacts........see what I mean

Very Nice - I think your accidental F10 has brought in a nice amount of the envoronment while still letting the bird stand out....

Heavy clouds? Wish I could find SEOs in such good light (1/500th at F10). Great stuff. The band of cloud framing the top of the image was definately needed.

beautiful, the gradient in the sky and pose are great

Nice one Phil, the bird still stands out well even at f10, and the light is nice.

Very nice Phil. I like the way the bird is just breaking clear of the immediate background.

I agree with all of the above Phil. I actually like the dim, grey light on this, I think it adds to the atmosphere. I'm impressed that you shoot birds in flight using MF...
Hi Phil,
A fine result and impressive technique capturing it so well with manual focus.
Been busy with these myself over the last few days, very addictive

Hmm, guess who's not talking to you anymore
Far better than my efforts, but that serves me right for not staying longer , you got the better light and longer lens.
Nice one Phil, your perseverance paid off, well done you

nicely seen, can understand the strange artifacts comment, but looking closely can also see what they really are :)

Beautiful shot and all the more so considering manual focus - incredible! The background is spot on too.

Very nice Phil, also like the way the smaller aperture has brought in more of the environment. Keep going, I'm sure they're just camera shy and will look at the lens sometime soon!
