EOS 30D Sigma 120-400, ISO 400, F7.1, 1/1250
I got fed up with the 170-500, so ive bought a 120-400, at the moment im really pleased with it just wondering what everyone else thinks of the clarity and sharpness

The image looks ok but its difficult to tell from a small jpeg, It looks to me like the image could do with a small amount of levelling and a better crop would help with the comp

As Dave says, ok for the web ,but impossible to judge on one picture. From what I,ve heard the 170-500 never was a brilliant piece of kit, but I don't know. I've only had the 50-500.

Well Joe, all I can say is you have the lens and so I wouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks of it. If it works for you then enjoy it. Sometimes other people buy kit that they may not be happy with and any comments from them would be off-putting and make you doubt your own ability. I used a Sigma 24-70 for years and it gave great results on film and digital bodies but a load of fellow Canon users would always sneer at it ! Shoot a load of test images - if they are sharp and you are happy with them then to hell with what the rest of us think.

From experience, buy what YOU want, and not what others think is best for you, and try not to listen to others, invariably they have their own agenda.
Good to see two different, but similar species in the same image. Nice captur, well seen and taken.
Nice comp between Scaup and Tufty.
Major.
