Bald River Falls
Folks,

Here's a picture taken in autumn 2007 of one of the prettier falls in the Southeast IMHO. I caught it with just the right amount of water to make those streamers of water. Usually I don't like to do head-on centered shots, especially icon shots, but the asymmetry of the falls helps.

Cheers,

Steve

Gorgeous! Would you please share your camera, lens and settings?

Really pretty, Steve. You're right, this is a beautiful waterfall.

This was taken with your digi P&S, right?

Wow. That's a real show stopper, Steve!

Thanks guys,

I took it with my staple field camera, an Ebony 4x5 and used either a Rodenstock 180mm Apo Sironar-S or a borrowed 210mm Apo Sironar-S, a moderately long lens considering 135-150mm is considered around normal for the 4x5 format.

I don't remember the settings, but you can be sure the aperture was around f:16 - f:22 and the shutter speed was most likely around a second, but maybe up to two.

The shot was taken from the bridge of course. I'd like to go back with the 8x10 or even the 14x17 if I thought I could use a camera that big from the bridge without getting run over.

And the highlights look a little burned on my monitor, but the actual image is better. I'm having a 16x20 framed up.

Cheers,

Steve

Breath taking is all I can muster right now. I'm not a big fan of B&W, but this one's got a depth to it that made me say, "Wow", out loud.

Very nice!

Thanks Joe and Kate,

Joe, the jpeg is a poor reproduction of the 16x20 I have, and even the 8x10 print doesn't cause the detail in the "streamers" to pop out. This is one of those that needs to be printed BIG.

Cheers,

Steve
