Short-eared owl portrait.
Canon 20D, Canon 500mm f4 & Canon 2X Extender,
1/15 sec @ f14, + 2/3 exp. compensation, iso 200,
Gitzo 1548/B1, Remote release.
Small crop off of one side to de-centralize the bird further.

Hi,

Unfortunately I've not been able to participate recently as my internet connection only lasts for 5-6 minutes after starting computer, most annoying.
I only have time to have a quick browse of all the latest images, check the weather forecast and then the internet connection conks out  .

Been thoroughly enjoying photographing this Short-eared owl at the moment.

the sharpness and clarity of the image are superb Justin. All the more impressive since this was taken with 2x converter. I'm deeply envious of all these owl shots

Hi Justin,

Up to your normal very high standard. Very very nice image. I can see from your techs it was a bit tricky, but youve nailed it superbly.

Well done, thanks for sharing.

With the owl being so symmetrical, I don’t think you need space to look into, and a square crop would work fine. Looks a little lopsided as is to me.

An excellent shot, well worked and taken.

Everyone has said it, I'd give a body part for a shot like this, absolutely fantastic.

Cracking shot Justin, and a very smug-looking SEO to boot :toast:

Adding a bit more background/canvass and possibly flipping the image would make this a great DPS - I'm envious :wavey: :wavey:

An absolute cracker! Great pose, lovely colour palette. I wouldn't have thought about trying those settings but the result speaks for itself.

I'm with Ian on the settings comments - super capture and means I'll have to keep my 2x a bit longer now !
