This image was made north of Baker City, Oregon in mid-January. I had visited my hometown of La Grande and was on my way back to Colorado. At first light I could see that the fog and 10-degree temperature had combined to create some stunning decorations on the trees and grass. The stream is the Powder River. Nikon D2xs - Nikon 17-35mm lens - f/11 at ISO 100. Minor adjustments made in Photoshop.

I'm really liking all these frost shots we're having posted on RMNP this week!. I like your composition, and how the warm light is really making the frost stand out on the fg tree. My only nit is the airplane contrail in the sky above the far left tree, that is a distraction imo. Did you get any shots of the tree and it's reflection?.

I agree with Nick. The warm light on that frosty tree is outstanding and I like how the stream leads you back to the remaining trees. The contrail is distracting though, and I'd personally clone that out.

Great image! Really love the warm light. Very peaceful image.

Beautiful moment. The light is great. Most definitely clone out the harsh contrail ... in what is otherwise a soft, feathery sky.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I worked last night to get rid of the jet contrail. I hope I fooled you hawk-eyes but I doubt it. It was very challenging to match the sky. This was the best I could do. I hope it is better.

I really dig this too Rod! Wonderfully composed, and I love the way the front tree is lit up, and the background ones in the shade. Well done!
