I have been shooting raw and jpeg in camera then when I load them into my computer the jpeg looks great and the jpeg looks great but when I try to edit it in photoshope elements 6.0 the program does all kinds of stuff to the raw file before I can edit it my monitor is calibrated so that isn't the problem I have Capture NX which came with my camera too if that would work better. Here is what I want to do I want to be able to use curves and everything else in with raw but I want the color to match the jpeg or the original raw file. if anybody could help me I would really apreciate it. Amy sugestions on sites or books on how to do this would be great as well. Thank you everybody and happy shooting

Well, I'm not a Nikon shooter and don't use Capture or photoshop elements, but I'll suggest something anyway! First off, if you are using a recent Nikon camera, the look of the jpg will be determined by what Picture Control setting you've made in camera. If you open the raw in Capture NX, you should be able to utilize that same setting on the raw file to match it up with your jpg. Then I'd simply export the image to PS elements to add your finishing touches. That's my 2 cents anyway.

Chad:
I shoot Nikon, and use Capture NX and Photoshop. There's a difference in the way Nikon NEF images look when processed in Adobe Camera Raw and NX. I've found, as Guy states above, that the best way to handle my NEFS is to open them in NX, process there as desired, and save as a TIFF. You can then open the TIFF in Elements and perform any additional processing you'd like. The new versions of Adobe Camera Raw allow for the use of camera profiles that are supposed to be a lot closer to what you'd get in NX, but I haven't tried them yet.

Curves isn't available in Elements ACR. No big deal, as you can use it on an adjustment layer in the main program withh the same non-destructive benefits as using ACR.
One way you can get better color in ACR is by installing the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw 5.2
This version includes camera specific profiles created at Adobe labs to improve color rendering. These profiles include:
Adobe Standard
Camera Standard
Camera Faithful
Camera Neutral
Camera Landscape
Camera Portrait
I find one of the Standard profiles to work much better than the default method chosen when I first open a RAW file in ACR.
Be sure to read the installation instructions carefully (scroll down for Elements instructions) .
