Floating By
Found a few Common Mergansers floating around in the Grand River channel this past weekend. Sunny, blue skies and the cold weather provided a nice background for this female diver.

Nice shot. Like the color of the water.

The colors and light are all quite nice. I like the catchlight in the eye and how the colors of the bird contrast with the water (the warm tones especially). It does strike me as a bit to "centered", and I'm wondering if it'd work a bit better with a slight crop off the left and bottom.

Toni, you caught her upstream swim nicely too. The ripples and current are nicely highlighted and that is some BLUE water. A nice reflection also, good shot.

Thanks!

Joel...I wondered about the crop too, and it's no problem to fix that. I forgot to mention that I cropped about 15% total from the bottom and right side. There are a few other images where the Merganser is placed better within the frame but haven't edited those yet.

I agree that a slightly different position in the frame--the LL powerpoint, for instance--would make this a hair more dynamic, but that's minor. I like the ripple pattern and the color of the water here, as well as the capture of the merganser itself. Nicely done, Toni.
