Yeah, 17mm would be great for a crop-sensor camera, but how do you put a filter on that thing? I guess you don't.

Jesse,

Agreed about the 17 mm.

I am selling my 24 mm TS-E lens as I'd like the slightly increased movements (I am a LF guy after all) as well as the improved optics for my 5DM2. $950 OBO for anyone interested (also seeing if I can sell at work - Microsoft).

I find the 24 mm TS-E lens to be a great travel lens while in Europe this past winter. I'll never travel anywhere without one.

The 17 is quite interesting.. would like to see some images taken with it..

Not being able to use a polarizer on the front of the 17 is something to consider and 17 is so wide I don't see a real advantage for movements in a landscape setting? I could be wrong though. Personally I find the 24 more attractive but is it worth the extra $1000 over it's predecessor?

I can't imagine the field of view on the 17mm would be prohibitively wide that an adapter ring couldn't be designed to fit on the bayonet so that a really big polarizer on there. The prospect of the 17 on the 5D2 is making me want to go buy about $50 in lotto tickets.

The protruding front element is a bummer on the 17mm. Besides, Canon has yet to prove they can build a fantastic wide angle. I think I'll be holding off for awhile.

The lack of a super wide angle that is up to par with Canon's newest sensors is the main reason I haven't dumped my 40D for a 5DII. Hopefully the new 17 can deliver the goods. I don't see the T/S helping a ton for DOF in landscape images, but can imagine it would open up some very creative doors for radical camera angles where converging lines would normally be an issue. Just imagine what could be done inside a dense forest, where an un-level camera is disaster for wide angles. It would also be an (theroretically) awesome interior lens, being so wide plus the ability to seamlessly stitch 3 frames together. The gears in my little noggin' are turning already with new ideas for wide compositions. We'll just have to wait and see if Canon can perform this time. They haven't been too stellar lately in the quality control dept.

Oh Aaron, tilt is so key for landscape images. All the LF'ers out there know what I'm talking about. I think part of Canon's motivation to upgrading the 24 mm and introducing a 17 mm is to capture the LF crowd.
