Tawny Owl
All too common a sight these days. I did a whole series for a magazine some years back and nearly ended up one of these myself, doing a badger. Using a wide angle at ground level on the Redditch By -pass is not pleasant ! At least you don't need a hide.

That's a shame to see John!
These are such beautiful birds and such a waste when they end up like this..
Hiya John, your tale reminded me of a similar incident with a badger on the A40 between Carmarthen and Llandeilo. In my case the carcase was on a stretch of bends and I was lying flat on a very small bit of pavement. When a lorry came around the bend the driver saw me and nearly cr----d himself and swerved quite a bit. !! Lesson learned, any further roadkill was only photographed on a straight stretch of road.
Will you be going to the conference this weekend? If so, I look forward to meeting you.

Really good photo John. Interesting to see something other than fox or badger in this type of shot.
I carry a Hi Vis vest in the car for doing this kind of thing.

A good piece of photo-journalism, John. Like Terry, I carry a high visability jacket in the car for this type of thing. Even if you get no pictures, it can be amazing the way lorries slow the second they see you - and then accelerate again the moment they realise you are not a copper!

Echo what David says, it tells a story and can only be worse these days with more vehicles on the road
