Not sure everyone saw this very uniquely captured scene by NPN & CANP member Enrique Aguirre. Excellent sighting and photo too, Enrique. :toast:

I saw the photo in the paper, but didn't even look at the photographers name. Great shot Enrique :toast:

Thanks guys!

the irony about this is that it is possibly my worst shot ever!!!!

I just posted it as a favor for the boat captain that takes us out on the slew. He pointed it out to the Sentinel journalist and the rest is internet viral history. The pic has made it in to KGOtv ch7, ABC Portland and all the way to CNN.

A few good contacts have been made through this, which is good. I'm also getting a LOT of fan and hate mail... yes HATE mail!!! ranging from "this is just an undercover ad for the photographer and the boat captain" to "shame on you for faking it in Photoshop"... it is all quite amusing ;-)

The full story:

Feb 3rd. Rebecca Jackrel had a couple of friends visiting from abroad and organized a boat trip. Her, her 2 visitors - Iain Williams & Isabelle Groc - plus Jim Goldstein, Michael Kern, Bruce Bruce Finocchio and myself set out in Captain Yohn's boat. As we approached the turn around point we spotted what we thought was an otter with a clam. Our angle was off, it was like the dogfight scenes in Top Gun... a few more seconds and we would have had perfect shooting position, unfortunately the otter went under before we got in to place. I was having stability issues (the rocking of the boat was making me a bit dizzy) so I decided to start tracking early and as a reflex i fired off a couple of shots before the otter dove away. When I reviewed them on the LCD I started laughing as only then did I realize it was holding a camera.
The image is soft (camera shake despite the VR, due to the rocking boat) and out of focus (it was a bit too far and the sensor locked on the water slightly behind the critter). I believe Michael has a better shot but I don't think the captain ever found out a bout it, so when he called the press he only mentioned my shot.

The last couple of days have been a lot of fun and my phone has been going crazy!!!

Now, if I could jut make this happen with one of my GOOD photos!!!

Cool photo and great story. A prime example of when opportunity meets preparation. Good stuff!
