I took this photograph in 'landscape' format as i wanted to try and show the habitat the grouse lives in and i feel this picture does just that ,they have stunning markings/colours i was able to take this photo with a mixture of luck and my 600 and patience

Hi Craig,
Love the bird and the foreground element. There is quite a lot of white in the background that is distracting my eye from the beautifully composed foreground.
I really like the pose here, and the lighting is sublime. Composition spot on for me, with a lovely sense of space given by the open area to the right.
Have to agree with Craig about the slight distractions - but to quickly add they are minor and dont spoil this for me at all, as it evokes memories of numerous hill days with grouse popping their heads up at my approach, and I could argue that they are quite artistic, starting at the grouse and swooping off up right from it.
A little lower camera angle and the grouse's head would have been in the oof bit which might have been a useful device - if you cant disguise it, make a feature out of it.

Nice comments and very constructive/helpful john, ian the white 'bits' you see are the remains of the snow on the moors,i could have cloned them out and put a picture perfect replacement but that is'nt how it was on the ground. I think it add's to the picture,
many thanks

Thank you for using the small and discrete but perfectly adeqate © at bottom left which is not dominating the image. Nice one.
