First Light...
The foothills of the Sierra along Hwy 49 are covered with beautiful oaks, it's a little difficult sometimes to isolate a particular tree but there's plenty of opportunity. I've stopped at this dead oak many times trying to get a shot, most times the light is terrible or cows have surrounded the tree; not this morning though. Got there about 6:45, sun just starting to rise over the Sierra crest, cloud cover to the west and NO cows! Had a nice time, quiet and not much traffic on the road adjacent to the fence line. This tree is located on Hwy 104 just west of the small town of Ione.

Man that tree looks like it's had better days! Great find, those oaks really are expressive trees. The warm light is beautiful, and I love the subtle pastels in the sky.

Reno, this is wonderful. There is golden hour light and then there is this surely magical light. The subject matter alone is super with all the adjacent debris field of scattered oak pieces, but it is truly special in this light. :toast:

I like it... especially all the chunks of limbs lying around the base. Interesting shot!

Reno,

What a grand old oak - which of course is now past it's prime...;-) The light is wonderful and I'm glad you were able to single this one out - no cows, fences, etc. Like Eric, I'm fascinated by the amount of fallen and broken limbs around the base of the tree. Makes for a unique and timely image.
