Caught this Great Blue Heron warming up along the shoreline of Lake Conway the other day. It was very cold that morning and he refused to move, or he was enjoying the sunrise with me. That provided me a great opportunity to take a few snapshots and move a few steps and take more. I eventually left him alone to warm up.

Mike, I'm sure this is a great shot but your links don't seem to work. Your pic isn't coming through so you might try another link.

Mike, this is an unusual composition for an avain shot, very intriguing. I like the silhouette, linear streaking of the bg and small sunburst on the left side of the heron. I'm wondering if this would have been even stronger had the silhouette been positioned directly in front of the bright bg band. In any event, a compelling shot ... well done!

I tried off to both sides front and back of the Heron and never did try straight on with the sunlight. Looking back, I should have. I was cold and on my way out of the woods when I saw the shot and didn't shoot too many extras. It's different! It wasn't a planned shot, it just happened. I sometimes like the unplanned shots the most.
