I shot this one Friday PM while hiking the short trail in the Konza Prairie. It was around 4:30 PM. This is "as shot" with no adjustments. It was warm and no wind - the complete opposite of Saturday...

Nice one Merle. This shot gives the appearance of the tree growing out of solid rock (which for the Flint Hills isn't far from the truth). Too bad you couldn't have captured some of that warmth and windless evening for saturday but we managed all right.
Thanks for helping make the event a big success.

Merle, you must be living the good life - warm, no wind, and you got clouds. Nice capture, love the colors combined with the starkness of the tree.

Oh the hike at Konza, I've worn out my share of hiking boots on those trails.
Nice job on this Merle, well done.

Nice composition and great colors. You sure would have had a different result had you taken this on Saturday. The grass would have been a total blur! It was nice to meet you and hope you can make it back out here sometime
P.S. I tried to overlook that Tigers trailer hitch cover on your truck all day while I was eating your dust. I'm a big KU fan and that heartbreaking loss about killed me

Thanks all for the kind comments. It was great to meet a bunch of folks and renew friendships with the others. I appreciate the commraderie (sp) of the group. It makes for a very pleasant way to spend a very cold, windy, otherwise miserable day... I had fun....
Angela, the hitch cover is loyalty to my money. We paid five years of out-of-state fees when our youngest son went to MIZZOU in the mid-90's and we still lived in Southern California. Sorry about the dust. I tried to stay on the dustless part of the road, but, it didn't work. Hope to see you and some of the others when the flowers are blooming.

I like this... I do wish the clouds were doing a bit more, but cool looking tree.

Merle, if you took this at about 4:30, we must have just missed each other by about 10 minutes. I can't say that I remember this exact tree but I probably passed it just ahead of you.
I agree with Aaron, if you can increase the contrast a little, I think that this would be a more interesting shot.
As another Jayhawk fan, I would say your welcome anytime no matter what your hitch cover says.

Thanks for the idea Ken. Here's an updated version with more contrast.

Yes Merle, that punches it up quite nicely. Good work!

Really like the shot with the bit of extra contrast.
