Stormy Horizon
Taken on my first trip to Seal Rock State Park in 6 years or so. Rained on us most of the day, but the colors of the sky, water, and beach were almost tropical. We decided to make the best of it and work on compositions. I'd love to get some feedback on the composition as I hope to reshoot this with more interesting light. Here's my favorite from this location....C&C appreciated.

Canon EOS 50D
Tokina 12-24mm f4 DX @ 12mm
ISO 100 - 2 secs - F11
Circ Polarizer

The color turned out really well for such a dreary day.. good motion around the rock, and just enough sky..

Hey Chris,
I think the composition works. I agree with what Ned had to say. I do notice a slight curve on the horizon from the wide angle you used.

This really starts to crackle for me cropped square.

Square and black and white might be fantastic. Just a few thoughts...

I think the comp works very well. I like how I can see over those rocks in the foreground, and there seems to be some nice diagonals leading from right to left.

I like it as is, but I can see a dark and moody B&W conversion working well also. I've been rained on and fogged in at the beach more times than I can count, and have come to realize that the bad weather days are a perfect opportunity to really explore composition options. Sometimes when the sky is colorful, it is so easy to get beautiful photos at the beach. If you can take a dreary day and make something beautiful out of it, then that is a real achievement. I think you have done just that here.

There is much of interest in this color version. I really like the aqua palette. I'm not completely sold on the FG stones as they trail away out of the frame to the left, but the immediate FG is interesting with the lines of water sweeping around it.
