Well howdie folks
Hope everyone is doing well and shooting even better. Got up early Saturday morning and drove up to Talkeetna and shot this. It's made of 10 vertical images, stitched together in PS CS3 - a nearly 2 gig file! Yeah, it took a while. I think my computer added to global warming... there was smoke involved.
I also posted a Journal entry regarding the making of this image, from conception (pre-visualization) to post-production. It's a fun post, hope it is informative. It will give you an idea of what is to come from my site. Hope you'll check it out, and leave a comment on the Journal page. If you click on the photo (while on the Journal) it will take you to a larger version.

Take care everyone, and good shooting.

Dave,
Wow! Nice capture and processing, hope you didn't damage the PC and you're able to share more images with us. Love the hues! Too bad for the clouds over Denali, but what can you do? I tried this from closer a couple of years ago, the mountain was out, but I like yours better. Keep up the good work!
Love the website, too. The eagles, bears and goats are great!!!
Take care,

Splendid conditions, well worth the high resolution image. I hope to get my first glimpse of Denali this summer, but may end up heading in different directions once I get up north instead. There's just so much Alaska.
I read some snippets of your journal entry. Informative and a fun read, but I didn't have time now to get through the whole thing.

Thanks Mike & Kent, great to hear from you both. It's amazing how much of the color is lost on the web. With the correct color displayed, the clouds above Denali really pop nicely. I soft proofed for sRGB on the web, but I just wasn't very successful in the translation to the net. I really wish there was a better way for displaying artwork on the internet with consistent & ACCURATE color. Anyway, off my soapbox now.
Thanks for the concern over the computer Mike Everything is ok, luckily the sprinkler system cut in and saved the neighborhood I too have tried comps from closer to the mountain, but I keep going back here. What I like from this approximate distance, is that it allows you to get the other Foraker and Hunter in the frame for comparison of scale.
I hear you Kent, there is so much available up north. I really want to get on the Haul Road in the early fall for color and solitude, but I think that may have to wait till next year. I actually still prefer the Denali Highway to Denali National Park. Just more options for getting out just about anywhere across the tundra or through the taiga. Thanks for the kind words regarding the site as well, glad you are enjoying it. I try to inject as much humor as possible, since photography "how to"'s and "reviews" tend to get a bit dry. I plan on adding more content on a regular basis throughout the coming seasons: gear reviews, post production tips/theory, and photography of course. Plus there will always be the random rants and image posts. Should be fun
That's a beautiful image, Dave. 10 images. wow. My computer would just roll over and play dead on a file that big. Considering how old my machine is, I guess I should just be happy that it's still functioning at all. It's 4 years old this spring. I'm looking at getting a new one, and trying to figure out what to get, and also what monitor.
I hear you on what happens with color on the web. I think the color looks pretty good on this image, though, at least on my monitor.

Thanks Genny, much appreciated. My computer is also about 4 years old, but it's still trucking away. And it's a laptop! Looking forward to getting a new desktop... I hear a 24" iMac with 8 gigs of RAM calling my name with another 24" monitor hooked up next to it... Cameras keep getting more advanced, files keep getting bigger... I really need an upgraded Apple. I'll probably still keep my MacBook Pro for travel though, it's been very dependable.
It doesn't look too bad on the net, but it is definitely a bit flat and desaturated (even after proofing).
