Another Hallets shot
This is from my last hike exploring the ridge above Emerald Lake. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on the processing of this shot. I've started experimenting with some hdr software called Essential HDR, and so far I'm liking what I see. Results seem a bit more natural than what I get with Photomatix. This shot was just an off the cuff image. I'm planning on returning in better light.
40D, Tokina 12-24, Essential HDR.

It's a sweet shot in this light, not too harsh. The rock makes a great foreground lead-in and has the feel of once being torn off of Hallet's by a glacier.

Nice work.

I like this processing, Paul. It opens the shadows while still maintaining reasonable contrast.
Also, the foreground is very nice.

If I had this image, I could be happy to never return again, knowing I already had a great shot of the place. This is excellent!

I did recognize it as an hdr before I read the post. I am on the fence about whether I like it enough to overcome the slightly unnatural effect it is having on the rock in the foreground.
Otherwise I think it is absolutely great.

Paul,
Beautiful HDR image!!! Great detail and color...still it is so understated and natural. I use Photomatix and you really have to be careful or the outcome can look like a cartoon.
Great Job!!!

This is a sweet shot, and can't imagine how you could get better light than this.

Fantastic shot, Paul! The glowing lichen or whatever that green is on the fg rock shouldnt be glowing in the shadows, but that should be an easy fix. I love the snow details!
