I recently partnered up with Brad Hill in moderating the Fauna Gallery and this week it was my turn to choose the best image of the week (the editor’s pick or EP). Out of a gallery moderator’s duties this must be the most difficult one. There are always several images that ‘qualify’ for the EP and therefore making a choice inherently means that the moderator applies his or her own personal opinion. Like with photographic competitions some people will applaud the choice of the winning image by the judge panel and others feel that nr. 2 or 3 or even one of the highly commended images should have won… There simply cannot be one shared opinion by all about what is the best image, which of course is a good thing.
Here a brief overview of last week’s highlights in the Fauna Gallery.
Moderator Brad Hill is always bringing up interesting and educational discussion topics and this week he did this in his post with the interesting title ‘Contemplating life without flies’ where two images, which are almost identical, have very different stories to tell!
Tenderness came from Jess Lee who posted two really cute bear cub images, titled ‘The Kiss’ and ‘Play time’.
Alex Mody posted a hilarious and daring image of a Bison in a very peculiar pose in the most gorgeous light imaginable.
Also Pete D.’s image ‘A couple of snakes’ of two sweet looking snakes (how often does that happen!) curled up really cozy was another candidate for this week’s EP.
In the end, however, I chose Arthur Sevestre’s ‘Grizzly’ image, not only for the image itself, but also for the story that the image and Arthur had to tell. Please have a look at his image for yourself.

Hmm....Brad made you pick a bear image, didn't he? Great job, and thanks for the extra info!
Thanks so much for the EP Vincent, I'm very honoured and I think the bear would be happy to know that there are people around here that would understand it better and not crowd it as much as many of those that were actually around then!
And thanks for posting your thoughts on the selection too. That's very informative and nice to read!

Lon Sharp was in portrait mode this week and treated us with two excellent photographs,
‘Pronghorn curves’ and ‘Sandy beach and sleepy seal’.
