Evening all, hope you are all well.

I have had this shot for a few weeks now and have been umming and ahhring if it was of any use. It really was a grab shot as you an probably tell from the lack of sharpness. But I know how helpful some of you can be so I thought I'd throw it out and see what you all think.

D300
Sigma 180mm
ISO 125
1/4000 @ F4 (before you all say it, I know I could well of afford a better aperture ! )

All C&C welcome, it's the only way I'll learn

A very nice composition. You must have been very close indeed! I feel it could do with a little more punch, perhaps in saturation, levels or contrast - you would need to play around a bit. What's wrong with f4? I've read of many people who always shoot wide open to ensure maximum shutter speed and background blur. I suppose it depends on the characteristics of the lens.

The setting and composition works superbly IMHO.
I won't comment on sharpness as I'm viewing this on a fairly old laptop and would find it hard to evaluate that aspect accurately.

Unfortunately the image is not showing on my monitor. I'm in work and suspect it's something to do with that.

Hello Drew, I have just browsed through your previous postings and cannot see any of your images. However I can see that I have commented on others in the past so it looks as if my assumption that something is not compatible with my works set up is correct. I'll just have to check yours out at home.

Again not going to comment on the sharpness as it is difficult to tell at web size but will say that the image as presented looks fine, I like the composition and the included environment....

I might be tempted to just raise the levels a little... not too much as that would lose the atmosphere....

Thanks for all your comments, apart from the sharpness it seems to have been relatively well received. I must admit I was struggling a little with the levels and i have been trying to get rid of the 'muddy' feel to the overall image.

Once again, many thanks to all !!

I like the composition on this one Craig. The bird is in just the right place and the detail in the foreground is very atractive. Perhaps a little more contrast on the bird would give impact but it's always difficult to get good definition on a distant subject in relatively low light.
