Pink Dawn

For the third time (with camera in hand) I had the opportunity to witness and capture a mind-bogglingly pink pre-sunrise scene last October. This is Otter Lake, in the Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan's UP. One of the other occasions was also in the UP, back in the fall of 2003 at Council Lake. The other time was in September of 2007 in the Santa Fe National Forest in New Mexico. It always amazes me when something like this develops because everything in the landscape--not just the sky and its reflection--takes on the same decidedly pink cast.

I love thre color and the reflection. I am glad you shared this. Capturing images like this gives us memories forever. Bet it was awesome watching it unfold.

Ah, very nice - a soothing image. I had a similar experience along Lake Superior in 2005. The sky was incredibly pink, to the point that people would probably never believe a picture of it. Really nice. I bet this area would produce some interesting reflection compositions too.

Nice one Kerry. The best example of that I ever had was in a nature preserve in Tennessee a few years ago, and while shooting a waterfall pre-sunrise the sky was pink everywhere I could see - the waterfall actually turned out pink on the tranny. Not sure anyone would believe it, but I had a colleague with me - it was amazing.

Joel, re reflections--absolutely, I messed around with reflections, many of them including some combination of the reeds you see, at this spot quite a bit that morning.
