I took this is June 2002 at Willis Creek in Escalante NM in Utah. This was one of my first shots ever with an old Mamiya 645.
I thought the filmstrip was appropriate as it was actually shot on TMAX, and developed in my old basement darkroom. Imagine that!
Your guess is as good as mine on what that blown out area behind the tree is.

A challenging exposure Christopher. Well done. Maybe a little contrast boost would make it pop a little more. Did you try dodging that blown part of the sky?
Yes, the low contrast in the stone is my main problem with this one. The comp is very beautiful though. The curves in the rock, the ripples in the stream, the tree in the notch are all wonderful. Definitely a shot worth working with.

Jim;
Yeah I tried messing with the hotspot, but its all white info in there. I messed around with the contrast on the rock too, but no luck. Need someone with some mad PS skills to give it a go.

Very cool shot Chris. Good silver tones throughout
The hotspot could likely be a bit of dust or grit on the film?

Although I don't claim to have mad PS skills, I gave this a go since you offered. Hope you don't mind. This was done with a combo of slight curves, levels, shadow/highlight and selective color (blacks) adjustment. Personally, I think you already controlled the bright areas in the top pretty well so I didn't adjust them at all. You can pull detail out of the rocks, but I can see your main hazard will likely be posturization near the shadow areas with continued contrast tweaks. If you scanned the film at a high resolution it should be no problem though.
