I have not posted for quite a while due to work and other issues but I still managed to view the consistantly excellent photo's shown in this forum. This picture is one I have been after for a while so I would like to get views of it as I took it using the 2 x TC with 300 f2.8 so I am hoping it is sharp enough.Slight crop right hand side of picture.
nicely composed, not for everyone I know (always a big issue) on one hand i may take the lower branches out but saying that it also seems to balanced the perch somehow. It does seem a little soft to me, but that could just be the net resolution.
As I say, great comp and in general a really pleasing shot on the eye, well done !

Hi Dave,
Thats looks like a nice looking male you have there. Hope you dont mind but I downloaded your image and added 10 rounds of USM at 100,0.2,0, it has improved it a little, still looks a little soft and I wouldn't like to add that amount of USM regulary. Is it a big crop??

Very nice to see a Barn Owl in a tree as apposed to on a post. Unfortunately the branch may not always be particularly photogenic. The background is very simpathetic to the subject. A little cropping along the top and a small amount on the right would perhaps balance the composition more and the main subject could probably stand some carefully localised USM.

I did expect it to be a shade soft as I was using the 2 x TC but tried everything I could to get it sharp including cable release bean bag. The crop was very small amount taken from the right of picture a 600mm f4 would have grabbed the shot no problem but I do not want to open another mortgage, so 300 with 2 x is best I can do to get close. But yours does imrove it a bit so I will look to something similar in future, thanks for that.

As Paul said nice to see a barn owl on a branch , this one looks very white , they certainly do differ a lot it seems . I like the background , it suits the bird . A bit off the L/H side from where the twig exits the frame perhaps, nice shot.

Nice composition, good background, great looking bird and pose...but way too soft - don't know whether this is because of camera shake or too gentle post-processing. Try posting a 100% crop of the original - it'll give folks an idea on what advise to give you.
Hope it uses that perch on a regular basis because that has potential for some cracking shots - dead envious!

What a cracking looking bird. The sharpened image looks great to me. Nice one! Cheers, Mark

Beautiful image that definitely looks better with sharpening. The 2x with a 300 f4 lens gives very good results so I would guess it would be equally good or better with the 300 f2.8. Could it be a focus issue? I hope it is a regular visitor and look forward to seeing more.

The sharpened up version brings out the best, a nice looking shot
