Yet another ice image from my day trip outing on January 31st. I was drawn to this little "pocket of light". The sun was illuminating a pile of ice chunks from the back and side, causing the interior of the pile to glow.
Technicals: Tachihara 4x5, Fujinon 250mm, Fuji Velvia 100f, no filters

Joel, this is beautiful! The texture of the snow, the colors almost look like an underwater shot looking up at ice. Fabulous.
That was quick! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks Bruce!

Great eye for this one. If you hadn't said what it was It would have taken me a while to figure it out. Interesting colors.
I must have been in the same area within a few days of your visit. If I recall correctly your first shot was taken in ther area where there is an old fishing boat and an old fishing shack.
Stop it - you're killin' me. This has come lovely colors - only thing perplexing to me is that the tops of the snow are so purple (at least on this screen). Is that a function of the light coming from the side and the "tops" being in deep shadow? The blues are fabulous...

I really like this. Great combination of color, light and form. Excellent composition!
Phil - Yeah, that's where this and the other shot were taken, right along that beach.
CJ - I think it's probably a result of Velvia doing it's thing. Do you think it would be stronger if it was color corrected?

The different hues and colors of this are really nice! I like how the spaces between the chunks are laid out in the capture as well. Nice image Joel!

Love the colors and detail in this image! Nice capture Joel. You make me want to get up there and check out the beach this time of year! Instead, I'm going to Cozumel, but images like this help make me tolerate the snow and ice easier.
Peace,

Joel...Stronger? Not necessarily. However, color correction might make it a little more natural looking, at least to my eye. As you and I have talked before though, I wouldn't trust that kind of detail to an online view - I'd want to print it and make sure the print worked.....
CJ - Thanks, I know what you're saying. That said, I'm leaning towards color correcting it. I double checked the film to see if I did something funky to it in processing, and this is a really close match to the "original". Velvia however, (even the mild 100f version used here) is obviously not known for its color accuracy and probably induced a cast.

Color cast or not, Joel, this is simply a fantastic capture!
