Glide Pattern
Another of my images from yesterday. Caught this male cardinal in full glide to the feeder.

1/4000 @ f/5.6, 600 mm, ISO 800, AF, crop 40%

This is nice Wayne. You better run this one past all the eyes on avian gallery!

Looks like you're on a roll with these cardinal shots Wayne...this is great! Maybe we should all be spending more time around our feeders. Splendid work!

Awesome shot! I like how his tail is all splayed out. You better be posting these to avian!

another great capture, Wayne, I like the pose and the light coming through the tail feathers

Great pose Wayne. My display shows some reddish splotches in the bg. Might look better without those?

Thanks for the kind comments everyone! I have to admit I sure had fun trying to capture a few keepers from my back door this weekend. I needed to polish up my technique because I have two big avain photography opportunities coming up in March.

Larry, I went back to the raw file and the splotches are in the original capture. I don't know enough about cardinals to know if this coloration might signify a juvenile or not. But it is as captured, thanks.

Another great shot, Wayne. ISO 800 looks good in this shot. Is This you new 50D?
Posted by Wayne Rhodus on March 3, 2009 at 11:00 PM
Yes Tom, I shot this with the 50D. I'm still trying to figure out the optimal settings I can use for birds in flight shots. I'm hoping to get the ISO down to 400 if possible while still maintaining enough shutter speed.
