Old country church
An old country church in north central Texas. It was cold, windy, and clear yesterday. I had been hoping to see and photograph some nice landscapes, but with the clear blue sky I went for some different stuff.

Here is an old church south of Lipan, Texas with a b+w conversion.

The wide contrast between the church and sky really grabs you Darren. I'm not sure how people will perceive the perspective distortion; it's presence forces you to investigate the school and causes a tension that the viewer is either going to like or dislike.

Personally I like the combination of contrast and tension in this as presented.

Awesome... I love this church!

I know exactly where this Church is, I was just in Lipan Texas a couple of weeks ago and have a friend who has a ranch there. Have you ever had a chance to photograph Kickapoo falls off Falls Rd near Lipan? Every time I go it's dry as a bone.

Thanks. On a bluebird day I thought up close and b+w was the way to go. This was at 10mm so it was keystoned out of camera. I used skew to right it.

Mark- I have not been to Kickapoo Falls before but found it on Google Maps, so I will be making a trip there if we get some rain. Thanks for the tip!

I photograph the area west of Fort Worth at least every couple of weeks or so. I take a buddy or two and we loop out around Palo Pinto, Lipan, Glen Rose, or Cranfils Gap, etc. A lot of neat little towns, churches, ranches, and ruins out that way.

I like this shot, really grabs you! What did you do the BW conversion with? I'm just starting to get more serious about doing more BW conversions.

I think you made a good choice with the B&W here. Haven't made up my mind about the distortion, but overall, I like it. Nice work, Darren.

Scott-

CS-3 is how I do my B+W conversions. Start playing with the slides to see what looks good.

Elements is ok for B+W although I recommend that you first duplicate the base image and do your B+W work on it. That way if you do not like it you just delete the duplicate layer.

And Picasa laso ca do some interesting stuff with B+W (plus its free!)
