One of a series of 'wildlife habitat' shots I've been working on with the subject fairly small in the frame. Fulmar wheeling around huge rock stacks on the north coast.

1DsMk2, 300f2.8 + TC2x (600), iso 200, 1/1000 @ f8, focus on bird

John,
I like your "new romantic" images quite a lot, but there appear to be artefacts around the in-focus fulmar and the OOF gull just above it. I also detect a thin red line at the bottom of the image. Looks like there's been some problem downsizing for the forum.

Hi Tom - yes you're right re artefacts. I've limited time to output jpgs and for most, if not all, of my Duran Duran inspired images I use the email function of iView MediaPro (which I currently use to manage my images) which allows jpg creation. It's a quick push button method and does the job reasonably but not necessarily perfectly. Original is pretty good imho considering the 2x converter. Have just output a higher quality one and uploaded so jaggies hopefully decreased. No idea what the red line is though - I'm not seeing it. Where is it?

Hi John,
Thanks for explanation. At least you have a simple method of downloading. I haven't yet had the courage to come to grips with uploading pictures to the site from Aperture. As for the red line in fact it's both a red and a green line at the very bottom of the picture. Almost like a border. If it was a print I would say you had a blocked nozzle!

Very nice scene, the mist is great

Tom - it might simply be a thin gap between the image and the default grey border that I use where my images are hosted - might be simply the rgb whatsits being visible on your monitor, but I'm not seeing it.

I've demo'd Aperture and Lightroom and for various reasons decided on Lightroom which I've been working towards using as my main management tool. However I'm not sure I'll stay with it as it's slower than I expected. Aperture seemed a lot faster and would possibly be the more productive option.

Aperture should make whatever you decide to do with your images relatively painless - there's some very clever functions lurking in it - the email output is streets ahead of Lightroom for a start.
