When transfering files from the camera I get the following message:

"Some files could not have both XMP/IPTC preset and ICC color profile applied because they have image authentication information embedded.

I don't know what this means. XMP? IPTC? ICC color?

Image authentication??? Copyright...?

Does this harm processing of RAW files?

You don't say what camera you have, but perhaps you have "image authentication" turned on. On a Nikon D300 it's in the "Setup Menu". Turn it off and see if that corrects the problem. Transfer apparently can't apply that and metadata (IPTC) like keywords, etc at the same time. ICC color would be the color space metadata (sRGB, Adobe RGB). Image Authentication allows you to detect image alterations.

Yes, it is a D300.

I don't mind the message provided nothing in processing such RAW data is affected.

What what is the purpose of on camera image authentication if it eliminates other data????

What is IPTC?

I don't know enough about it to say if it affects anything, but personally, I would turn it off.

IPTC/XMP are metadata formats. Check this out:

Open an image in Photoshop and go to File > File Info. That's were you can see all the IPTC/XMP metadata that you might have applied and the EXIF data.
