Winter ptarmigan
One from a superb day of weather in the Grampians yesterday - very rare! An obliging group of 5 hens sat for a hour enabling a low approach to put one of them against the vivid blue sky - with a bit of mush (of which I'm a big fan) thrown in!

Canon 1dMII, 500mm, ISO 200.

Are you certain this is Scotland Peter? I've never seen a blue sky when I've been there !!
Very nice image indeed and I don't mind a bit of mush.

It's a cock! But that apart it's not bad. Too much mush for me though!

Very nice and I love the use of the larger 'blue' to denote space.

I really really like this. Incredible image but I think the head it's a bit over sharpened.

But still a very beautiful image. You thought this one out very nicely.

I like it - you have to try different perspectives and swim against the tide a bit otherwise you get the same old shot that everyone else has (I haven't got one of these yet but will have at some point). Did you take any portrait shots during the sequence with the blue sky?
