I photographed the Merced Bicycle Race in the
late 90's from the County Courthouse steps.
This is an annual event in Merced. I panned
the action in order to give the impression of
motion.
Robert, as with some of your macro shots this bicycle race scene brings back fond memories for me too. My brother and I raced for some years in the Redlands Classic on the day before the main event with the final road race for the pros. Typically they were 25 to 50 mile events for us, with the professionals finishing the week’s worth of racing up with a 125-mile road race the following day on a Sunday.
My entire family would always make the main event for viewing as it took in the Sunset Drive loop so you got to see the pros go by many times. Including seeing Eric Hyden racing who was fresh off his Winter Olympic speed skating events back then.
As such, I had taken numerous shots over those years with my 35mm gear and 300mm f2.8 lens. It was truly good times.
Thanks for sharing this image. Not sure I had any panned shots like this one, but it sure does give a nice look to the action overall.
By the way, I will have access once again to a macro lens. Not sure I will know how to use it after all these years of not having one, but it will be fun to try it again.

Robert,
Nice shot depicting motion - you executed this quite well. Have you tried panning? This location might not have worked for that, but it can have some interesting results as well.
