I like the comp, David. Heh-heh, the only recognizeable thing about Hawaii in this scene is the color of the sand in the fg! Good water action. Gotta be one of the more eery color palettes I've ever seen. That's what makes it interesting to me. Not at all what I expected to see from the title, which gives it a factor.
That is an interesting mix of both color and texture, and grows on me as I look at it. The bright foreground and darker background is the reverse of what I often see in these beach scenes. I do find the rocks appearing plugged a tad distracting.
About the color of the sand, in 1984 I started running a 1-Hr. Photo shop. Printers were very manual then and about 30% of the photos would have to be redone to hand adjust the color. For about 4 years I worked and worked to get that sand to a neutral gray like it is here locally. Then we took a vacation to Hawaii. What a shock, the sand was pink!!!!
I do like the forground of this photo especially.
I agree with Jerry... love the foreground. I imagine what a challenge it was to take a few Hawaii Vacation shots with the lighting and the Pacific NW sky.

Ditto what everyone else said.

Well chosen shutter here - there is a lot of movement to this stormy scene. Ditto the other comments about the palette and John's mention of the blocked up rocks. Nice, but the entire image seems to be too heavy on the L side.
