Does anyone know....
What the copywrite laws are for music used in a sideshow presentation, not for sale. Let me explain, I've been asked to speak at a photo club in west Tennessee in May and I was thinking about showing a short sideshow with some music as part of my presentation and was wondering about the copywrite laws. Thanks for any help!!

I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me that you can play music anywhere you want, as long as you don't sell pirated copies.

I'm no lawyer either but I am pretty sure you cannot play music anywhere you want any more than I can show your pix anywhere I want.

Technically, I am pretty sure you would need permission or something like and ASCAP license, but practically, you would likely get away without. There are some pretty good Creative Commons tracks that are free and legal. I used some of these on a DVD that I have been selling. Try Googling "Creative Commons music" to see what is available.

As long as you paid for the music you are free to use it in your presentation. You couldn't use it if you were collecting money for the presentation without paying royalties. You also couldn't sell the slideshow without paying royalties for the music.

BTW: it is copyright not copy write.
