Barn Owl Portrait
This photo of my mate the Barn owl was taken this morning.I used a 40D plus 300mm f2.8 and 1.4TC taken from my car with bean bag and have cropped some of the surrounding bushes to try to show just the bird.

The more I photograph these Owls the more interesting they become especially when you see them hunting, the stare when they hover appears so intense.

I have done very little to the picture apart from the crop adjusted the levels and small amount of sharpening.

I know the wire is not nice but I just like the way the picture of the owl turned out.

Its brill, the wire doesn't and shouldn't detract from a great pic. We are photographing wildlife in its enviro, not studio subjects.

It is a tight crop, but i think it works.

Well done.

I agree with Brian, apart from needing a litttle bit more room on the left it's a great picture.

Dave

Its a great shot of a fantastic species. I'm with Robert and Brian. The wire is as is that's where the owl perched. That's life barbed wire is out there. It doesn't detract from a first class capture.

Beautiful shot, but comp isn't to my taste - would have preferred more space somewhere or even a landscape orientation - still cracking though :toast: :toast:

Nice shot with good detail but the pose makes the comp somewhat difficult, The wire /post not a problem, they are what they are we can’t all drive around with photogenic perches for owls to sit on.

I like the comp just fine, it's an excellent pose, but I would like to see it darkened down a bit but that is just my personal preference.

I'm amazed how all you guys doing barn owls are getting so close to them. It is obviously not at all perturbed by your presence. Lovely shot in nice light. Cheer, Mark

A little more room but a wonderful capture nonetheless. I would remove the little distracting artifacts in the top right of the frame as it pulls my eye away from the subject. Everything else, as is..!
