Terrapin
Taken today while walking in the park looking for the Firecrest that I posted last week.

I came across this terrapin just sunning itself out on a log in the water this is the smallest one I've seen here in the park there are some really big ones in excess of 12 inches across.

Hopefully this is just one that somebody has abandoned. Not that I approve of that, but it is a good deal better than the thought of them breeding in the area. They are very destructive to a lot of UK pond life. Nice picture of it by the way.

Phil what a great shot, Haven't seen a terrapin for years although they do inhabit a pond not too far away, thanks for the idea.

Hi David I very much doubt that it has been abandoned as they are 20 to 30 very large ones there seems to be quite a stable population.

If it carries on like this we shan't need to go abroad to see exotic wildlife anymore. We have a pond or two over this way that produces some pretty vicious looking turtles that grow to a fair old size.
Interesting shot Phil.
