Though the overall number of posts remains low in comparison to the ESS and Avian galleries, there were quite a number of interesting and beautiful posts again this week in the Fauna gallery. In my opinion only three images, however, were actually competing for the ‘Pick of the Week’.
Jagdeep Rajput thanked NPN for the honor of featuring his wonderful portfolio this month by showing us one of his older images (still created with that ancient material called ‘film’) of an Indian Elephant tossing a Monitor Lizard! This incredible title had an even more incredible accompanying story, which without the photo I would not have believed! This proves again that seeing is believing.
As always, I can almost safely say, Lon Sharp was also in the running for the EP again. This week with his simply beautiful image of a coyote, titled ‘Grasslands coyote’.
Not many new NPN members start off like Tamara Gooch did this week. Her NPN debut image in the Fauna Gallery rightfully attracted a lot of attention. I immediately knew this colorful and dramatic image of two powerful Bison silhouettes against an orange sunrise would be an EP candidate.
Now which one to choose out of these three great images? What is the best reason for an image to win an ‘award’? Is it capturing very unique behavior (Jagdeep), technical perfection (Lon) or the power of an image that evokes an emotion with the viewer (Tamara)?
To me photography is a lot about emotion; therefore I could not resist choosing Tamara’s image as the pick of the week...
Congratulations to all three of you!
