I've not seen one of these, so well caught. One nit though - there is an area of rock under the bird that looks sharper than the rest of the rock in the picture. My eye keeps being drawn to it ?

Hi Kim,

Interesting shot - I really like the pose. The whole image does seem a little soft (apart from that little area by the foot that Graham mentioned?) Nice image none the less.

That's a beautifully detailed shot Kim. I would normally put a bird looking back into the shot as you have, but having recently seen Andy Astbury's dipper post, I must say that I think it might be better placed on the right of the frame.

Hi - hope you don't mind second comment.

I'm now looking at this on my home PC and calibrated screen rather than the work PC. To me, the rear top quarter of the bird and the rock appear sharp whilst the rest of the image is soft ? Can you explain the process you've used here as I am now intriged

Hi Graham. Now you are asking me to get technical.. Firstly I am not at home but away in France and am using a laptop rather than my main computer which I find difficult. Secondly had it not been a purple sand - which I had great difficulty in getting - I would not have posted!! Quite honestly all the pics were soft, possibly because of the poor angle, I was shooting down onto the birds from opposite cliffs and not feeling at all safe!!
I edited in photoshop, using layers and eraser for sharpenning but later trying to sharpen a leg - made a mess of it and sharpened the rock instead!!
Promise I will be more careful next time!
Thanks for the interest and comments though!

Bravely taken Kim, not sure I'd have wanted to concentrate my vision away from the cliffs I was on!
