Bring On Spring!!
I shot this several years ago with my Kodak P&S at (where else?) the Konza Prairie. The sky was slightly overcast and really made the colors stand out that day. I've never been able to get a shot even close to this since. Last year I missed the flowers at Konza entirely, and the year before they weren't blooming as nice. I'm hoping we'll have some timely rains this year and that I can be in the right place at the right time

The red buds are in full bloom here in Conway, AR. The Daffodils are looking great and the dogwoods are on there way. My neighbors iris are blooming, but they are a little early for some reason. I am very very exciting about some spring color. I just wish we could get some decent rain our creeks and falls are down. We are getting a little rain as I write this, I believe it is the same little bit of rain you guys in Kansas had Monday.

Beautiful shot Angela! I can't wait for the flowers to show up either.

Great coneflower image, Angela! Very nice composition and light here...

Each year I seem to miss the coneflower peak, but I'm going to keep an eye on them a little closer this year.

Neat coneflowers, of course you know that you have Echinacea angustifolia! This is a Great Plains species called narrow-leaved coneflower. In Missouri, which is on the eastern edge of its range, it is thought to be extirpated. We have to live with Echinacea pallida, the pale purple coneflower.

Best,
Don

Thanks for the info, Don. I knew they were coneflowers but hadn't looked up the specifics (even though I do have a prairie wildflower book). It's nice to know exactly what it is! If you're the resident wildflower expert, I may call on your knowledge again if I have trouble figuring out what I'm shooting.

Angela, bring it on, of course after you have exhausted your wildflower book resources. I imagine you already have Tallgrass Prairie Wildflowers by Doug Ladd and Roadside Wildflowers of the Southern Great Plains by Craig C. Freeman and Eileen K. Schofield, University Press of Kansas.

Best,
Don

Angela, I can see why you like this one, I bet you wish you had it in a higher resolution file.
The lighting is nice and soft and even and I really like the composition.

At first I thought, how cruel to post such an image on a cold late winter day, but it does remind us what we have to look forward to in a couple of months. Thanks for posting it.

This is cool. Those point and shoots have some crazy depth of field...
