I have just found out today that there is a group of six buzzards ten miles from my home in Essex , not noted Buzzard country. They are on the edge of a private wood but I have gained access to the fields beside the wood. Can anyone give me any pointers , for example can they be baited , say with dead rabbits ?.

Thanks, Bob.

I've seen them take roadkill rabbits on several occasions so I'd think a good fresh rabbit would draw them in nicely.

Hi Bob, Yes they can quite easily be baited with roadkill (rabbits / pheasants etc). You'll need to put a few out (1 at a time) to get them locked on and then set up a hide to photograph from. They can be wary up here in Scotland and the slightest movement of the lens can scare them away but they may well be more tolerant with you. Late summer when they are chicks around looking for easy food is a good time and through autumn and winter. Less good just now but may work so worth a try. Cheers, Mark

Hi Bob,

Plenty of Buzzards round here, Suffolk/Essex border, as Mark says, they can be baited with roadkill, I ve found Rabbits to be good, lay them on their backs so the white is a beacon for passing raptors, expect the Corvids to have a go first as well. They are very very jumpy around here, almost to the point I've given up on them, but going to give them one last go

Regards

Rob

Thanks for the advice , I will try to put it to good use . I am now driving around with a pile of poly bags for the road kill , one eye on the sky ,an eye on the hedge row and one looking out for the road kill, must make sure the car insurance is up to date .
