Hey folks. The pup and I are heading up to the page area for the next week or so. We're going to backpack around Paria Canyon / Buckskin for a few days, maybe hit S. Coyote Buttes.. possibly try for a North permit. White pocket, Cottonwood Cove, etc etc.

I'm looking for a few other options around the area. It's too early in the season yet for the Escalante Canyons I think - high water and leafless trees, etc. I can't do Antelope (Won't leave my dog in the car, that's just mean) or things like Coal Mine (Dog + Cliffs = trouble).

I was thinking possibly Powell - anyone have any suggestions off the beaten path around the lake? I've got a lifted Jeep, so I'm not worried about road conditions. Any other ideas?

Anyone going to be up that way? Besides you Tony.. you're always up that way.

There is a series of roads on the east side of Powell that are part of the "hole in the rock" road where you should have very little company. From the trip reports I've seen, the spur trails should in the 7 difficulty range. It looked like an area with some good opportunities.

Kurt - I'm going to be there Tuesday, hopefully meeting up with a friend, going to try the walkin permit. Going to call now and see. Not a big deal if I don't, just be nice to be away from Denver for a bit... gimme a shout maybe we'll hook up

You familiar with Alstrom Point/Nipple Bench area?

Christopher, let me know what pans out. We'll see where I'm going to be. Mel, thanks for the tips. The Rubicon forum though is members only. Either way, I googled it. Looks interesting.

John - I am now, thanks to the interwebs. Alstrom looks phenomenal! I'll take any info I can get on both those places.

Awesome, thanks John! That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for.

Mel, I'm not sure I'll have time to hit Hole in the Rock, but I'll be sure to get the info when I do. Thanks!
