Very nice shot and a great pose too, but I'm not quite sure about the wall. The picture is well composed but I think the wall is a little bit too dominant here. Maybe you could try cropping it into landscape.

I agree with Sandra about the wall and comp. Good NH/behaviour image. I found they often did this just before they took off.

Perhaps less wall at the bottom and a tad more sky at the top this might make a nice editorial -don't suppose you got it landscape aswell??

Cracking pose and behaviour - wall makes it a bit bottom-heavy - otherwise I like it a lot Chris :wavey:

Hello Chris, good to see you posting again and nice to meet up with you at Slimbridge. I agree with above comments about the wall being a bit too dominant and for me I think it would work better if cropped to just below the cap stones. As I wasn't there and don't know the conditions I'd say the image looks a tad dark but that could be the conditions or works monitor. Good behavioural image and certainly different to the other SEO pictures I've seen on here. It's a bit of a coincidence as I saw my first one of these yesterday at a spot about 15 miles from home, lovely setting beautiful late evening light and too far away for a decent image. However, I was so chuffed that I'm going to pack in work early today to get myself back down there for another try.
All the best
Robert

Robert - Yes, good to meet at Slimbridge: have you had a crack at those badgers yet?
I wanted to retain the crepuscular feel I obtained in-camera so I kept the posted version darkish.

As for the wall, there is a lot of it in the area I took the shot! That fact is reflected in the image as an accurate representation of the bird's habitat. That said, you're all right, I've over-cooked the crop at the top and as a result unbalanced the shot.

Great bird, nice behaviour. First images for me after five attempts.

Cheers,
Chris
