A friend wants a CD of her paintings to ship to galleries in the south. I made a slideshow using Nero software. Unfortunately if the user hasn't keep their codecs up to date, it won't run on Windows Media Player.
While I could also do it in PowerPoint, part of the difficulty is we don't know what software might be at the other end.
Any ideas as to software that can be used to make a standalone presentation. As this isn't the soft of thing I generally do, nothing to pricey!
Checkout Pro Show Gold by Photodex. I use their Producer version for most of my slide shows. It offers full control. If you already have Lightroom, then there is a slideshow element included which allows you to export your slideshows into Adobe Acrobat format. I've used that before and it too works well, but doesn't allow for quite as much control or varieties of output.
Dave, you could use Powerpoint. After creating the slideshow file, go to Office Tools on the Web and look up Powerpoint Viewer. You can download the installer and burn it onto your CD along with the Powerpoint show. The end user would install the viewer and then view the show. You might also include a ReadMe text file that gives instructions.
Just a thought.

I've put together several slide shows of jpeg images using PhotoShop Elements 5. Runs on any system with media player, and everyone I've sent copies to had no problem viewing file.
Photo sharing webs like Flickr and Webshots, as well as Google's Picassa (if you want the files to reside on a local computer) all have this capability and are free as well.
Here is another program that I have used for people to play their DVD's photo slideshow on their TV/DVD players.DVD-Photo-Slideshow
Good luck their is alot out there and you can spend a little money or a lot for this software.

I'll give you my favorite slide show programs. ProShow I use Producer also. It's great software, there is a little bit of a learning curve, but well laid out and intuitive.
I also like: Pictures To Exe Deluxe Which is cheaper with a ton of features. You can also update for free after you your purchase. Both programs are great, its just personal preference. I couldn't decide so I have both, but find I use PhotoPro Producer a little more often.
One of the best most useful programmes I've ever used; free, or cheap, if you want to pay (I have twice, it's so useful). This is by far the best/only image viewer anyone should be using (on windows, at least...). Very stable, ergonomic, fast, usable. Makes a standalone slideshow with a variety of options.
