This past sunday I went a day trip with fellow photographer Joel Truckenbrod. It was nice to shoot with someone who shares the same enthusiasm for the natural world as I do. The conditions were very mundane, we ventured to Pattison SP near Superior, WI. I was sadly disappointed by how built up that park was. For the evening we went back to Duluth and shot the shoreline. There was still some ice accumulation, but nothing spectacular. The sky was clear as could be so the sunset was mediocre, and this is what I got. I shot four different images all focused at different points, I then blended them together to achieve total DOF

Benjamin. This capture is nice an overall the color pallet is stupendous. My only two nits are I wish the nearest ice chunk was not cut off at the bottom and I'd like to see a little teeny tiny more contrast between the sky and the ice accumulations!

I like this shot a lot. it does a good job of communicating the power and energy of the ice flows on the lakes. The colors in the ice are cold and yet the sky adds a nice warmth to the image. I really like the sentinel standing guard in the upper part of the frame. It adds interest and is well lit. I'm also jealous of the IQ you're getting with the 5DII. Well done and thanks for sharing your trip.
The reason I cut the ice off at the bottom was to avoid getting foot prints in my shot. When we got to the beach there was a good 40+ people there, so a lot of the good vantage points were ruined due to the heavy traffic from all of the people.

I like it.
Glad you got to meet up with Joel and get out and see some stuff. I always like a good day of photography, but with other photogs of like mind along you can have fun even in less than ideal conditions.

Good perspective of the ice, Benjamin. My eyes are drawn to the lone chunk standing tall in the background, almost like a sentinel.
