Canyon's Edge
I'd love to have some new eyes comment on this image. I've passed over it more than a few times in my archive. The motivation behind the shot was the obvious interplay of color and lines - blue from the clear sky overhead, and the vivid red of red rock country at sunset. Thanks in advance.

I don't think you should pass it over anymore. Your motivation, and its result, are spot on. I don't think you'll ever see this hanging on someone's wall in a 40x60-inch print, but that doesn't mean it's not a great shot. It's very well crafted.

I think the light here is special. Definitely a keeper.

I like the color contrast as well Jesse. Like Todd says, it probably won't ever be the central design piece for someone's living room, but its still a keeper.

Nice! Id hang it on my wall, but with a couple minor alterations; id crop the extreme top so you have a nice even distribution of triangles. Also, the dof is not huge or it least it looks like the bg is slightly oof. That might work with some shots but IMHO this shot needs clarity, as in the fg, to work well. So if you can sharpen the bg (maybe a little contrast would help) i think it would work better.

I love the colors, lines, and textures - worth keeping. But to those not necessarily looking for graphical elements, they might wonder what the subject is. Cool light. Gives me some ideas for my upcoming desert jaunt.

Love the bold lines.

Surely a keeper. Perhaps few would buy a large print of it, but for those who know exactly where this location is, it is nice to see a different, imaginative take on it.

I like this and I totally get why you made this image. There's something about "the edge of light" that always captures my attention. I like the fact that the background is not real sharp as it forces my eye to the foreground. I don't imagine this will be one of your best sellers, but it's certainly a keeper and worthy of some of your wall space if for no other reason than to provide inspiration.

I also like this for the same reasons that you do.
I'd be well pleased to have it in my portfolio.

I like the color contrasts, too. I think Stan's suggestions on a crop to complete the triangles is good. It's a keeper.

I pulled this image out recently as an afterthought to fill out a print proposal, reworked the RAW, fell in love with it along the way and most importantly the art buyer chose it (using a square crop that Stan suggested). It's interesting how many images like this are buried in my archives, and it's been fun rediscovering them lately ... stuff that is more true to my natural vision. Images that might not thrill the majority, but have their own unique place in filling out a photographer's portfolio. Anyway, thanks for the input ... which generally reflects my own sentiments. Hope the story encourages someone anyway. :toast:

Cool shot - funny thing is - I looked at this after spending this morning at CNM and working on my own canyon rim shots. I didn't have this light, though. I had bright overcast conditions.

You just never know what a buyer will like, eh? This image sure has color, texture and moment!

I agree with the crop suggestion and really like the warm/cool combination and the incredible texture of the foreground rocks.

Jesse..I missed this one. Stan found a great crop suggestion, I would have never come up with that. Great job Jesse, I really like your vision. Walking away from usual compositions, you usually create great stuff...
