Bond Falls is one of the better waterfalls in the UP. I’ve been in the area quite a few times but have never mustered enough votes to stop. Earlier this week I finally made it. Unfortunately, it was a bright sunny day and high noon neither of which makes for good waterfall photography. In addition it was 60 degrees and several folks we met said you couldn’t walk along the falls because it was too icy. Fortunately we had our ice gear with us which made it doable.
Shortly after this shot was taken the entire ice formation collapsed.

Interesting view. I like them all but like 19& 36 on the web site the best. Glad you got to stop and shoot even if the light was less than you wanted, still some nice shots.

Wow, the in-your-face comp is great! Blur & sharp contrast work very well too.

I really like the drama of the ice and surrounding falls. I think the BG trees and sky are distracting in this particular case, for reasons I can't fully explain. I would like to see a tighter shot, with just the falls, rocks and ice. I'm wondering if you tried any tighter compositions and what they look like? Thanks for sharing a recent shot from this spectacular location!
Bond is a great location; I've shot there three times in the past (though not on my most recent UP foray last fall). The stairs on the way down to the base of the falls can be really treacherous when icy.
BTW, Phil, I see from your Web site that you discovered that the rapids and cascades above the falls are every bit as photogenic as Bond itself.
