Ok, so I've been longing to get back to some more archived shots that just didnt quite catch my eye in color and seeing how they look in a black and white setting.

Here's one from the San Juans from this past autumn that gave a bit of interesting light and shadows for a black and white composition.

Canon 1DsMIII, 400mm f2.8L @ f16, 1/160th exposure. Silver EFEX processing
Thanks for looking! Cheers

It would be a real heartbreaker if you had a communication breakdown and couldn't show us this lovely picture of a mountain that looks like a stairway to Heaven. The way you've processed this gives it a real black mountain side. Photos like this always make me wonder what's over the hills and far away. Perhaps the ocean? I could be wrong, but that would be nobody's fault but mine. Was this taken in the evening? I'm guessing not. How many more times do you plan to shoot pictures from here? Lots, I'll bet. Thank you. Time for me to ramble on. Moby Dick.

Now that I've stopped laughing at Todd's comment, I can comment. I really like this. It has good drama and I like the processing. To my eye, it feels just the smallest bit cramped on the right, but I reserve the right to change my mind on that later. I think if I could see a big print I would just say, "Wow!" I can see there's a lot of detail in here to enjoy.
BTW, how do you like Silver Effects?

Agree with above, want it opened up a bit and maybe it feels a little unbalanced but it's powerful and a real beauty.

Very dramatic. I like what I have seen from Silver efex. I may have to ask for that for Christmas. Great peak and clouds, and the conversion is great.

Very dramatic treatment of a rugged mountainscape. I would like to see a little detail in that shadow side on the right face of the mtn. and the blue sky is a bit dark but definitely in the good range. Is this in the Sneffels Range?

Oh yeah, you made this misty mountain hop all right. Very nice and I like the dark sky. I too think it might just be the slightest bit too tight on the crop, but I'd jump at the chance to have this image as my own.

For me, it is a carolsolambra of black dog sky, over the hills and far away. Hahaha, classic Zeppelin response Todd, remind me to blast some Zep next time I'm in town hahaa!

I was pretty stoked on the conversion that Silver Efex had on this shot. The original, while seemingly would have been a throwaway in color, ended up taking on a great tonality and texture that I would not have envisioned in color otherwise. I highly recommend trying that software out, especially on some of those images you would otherwise not think of giving a second look.

Thanks for the comments all! I agree by the way, I wish there was a bit more to show on the sides, but i was stuck at a fixed focal length shooting it so I had to compose it as best I could.

This shot was actually taken right at the traditional photographer stopoff spot on top of Dallas Divide, and was actually even taken as an afterthought as I waited for the rest of the clouds to clear on the range late last fall.

Here's another take on the image from a landscape perspective.

Dang, the 2nd one is even better! Thanks for the link. I'm gonna have to try Silver Effects. Thanks for the info.

Oh yeah, that second one is simply awesome! You've got the detail in the shadows and the sky is a bit lighter. This second one has room to breathe!

That second image is 2 die 4!

Yup, #2 really does it for me too. NICE. Silver EFEX is well worth the $$$!

Great work on both but #2 is really sweet! The drama in the clouds is just amazing

#2 really kicks a**. I got a whole lotta love for it. I'm hungry now so I think I'll have a tangerine before my wife gets pissed and has me hangin' from the gallows pole because I didn't clean the kitchen like I said I would. Good times, bad times, I know I've had my share.
