After the rain
Once the male had opened the bait and ate the breast the female would then take over and finish the rest. It was amazing watching this powerful raptor delicately pick the bits she did want and discard the bits she didn't. It rained all day while I was in the hide and she did look soaking wet but every now and then she shook the water off her feathers, I had no chance of stopping all her body but on this shot her head and eye is razor sharp.

Canon 1DS MK11, 500mm, 1/15, F4, ISO 250

'but on this shot her head and eye is razor sharp'

Which in my opinion makes this a great image.... love it, can even forgive the Ptarmigan feathers

You knew you were pleased this one. Just imagine if you were to delete something like this when sorting out images on your card though!

Top shot mate.

Did you have a paving slab on the lens ? 1/15th  Another cracker from the shoot. Oh and as for your face being a picture ,yes we have it over the mantle ,it keeps the kids from the fire.LOL

First rate image Danny - the movement is just so well captured. The background deserves a mention too because it really sets the subject off. Well done.

That bird's legs are huge! I love the concentration on the Goshawk's face while rousing.

Ripper of an image, many congratulations.

It must have been frustraiting for you during the wait with the prospect of poor light. However something good came out of it and its amazing at 1/15 what you have finished up with.
Know doubt a memorable experience just to witness these marvelous looking birds.
First class. :toast:

Hello Danny.

This is just superb, just love the way you have captured the Goshawk.

Think I would just try and tone down some of the bright feathers on the ground.

Apart from being a shot to your own high standards, it does show what can be achieved with a slow shutter speed and a comparatively low iso. It is never a waste of time is it, whatever the light?
