Forest/blizzard B&W (creative I'm afraid - only a wee bit though)

I have a wee 'thing' about forests and snow and love the effect of dark and light when snow sticks to the side of pines. This worked quite well as there was a snow shower that passed through in early morning followed by a burst of low brightness from the just-rising sun which peeked out after the cloud had drifted past and which just 'lifted' the whites on the trunks. The drifting snow was an added bonus.

EOS350D, 24-70 at 70mm, 1/125 at f10 iso 200, handheld.

I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at here John, which to me, seems like the whole point. It reminds me of some kind of paper with creases (where the trees show the white on the left of their trunks). The snow flake in the middle is a bit distracting but you can't have it all.

I'm coming back to Scotland today so maybe I'll put my creative hat on if the weather is miserable.

The sort of shot you have to look at a couple of times to see all the elements of the picture.

Very different,works for me.

It took me two or three viewings before I worked out the subtle shapes of the snow rimmed trees, but now I see them I really like the image as its the sort that draws you into it. :toast:

Yea, you're right! There's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes. I think Billy Connolly said that.

It's a bit cloudy in Glasgow, might try the highlands over the weekend.

I don't like it, It's just too.....random? I can see what you were after but I think an arty site might suit it more. Theres just not quite enough detail for me, but as you can see above others like it so don't be disheartened by me. If you like it thats all that matters.

Cheers Brian - you've made me smile - I'd rather have stern criticism here than my back patted on some artyfarty site! :-)

I think that this is a fine nature shot with an artistic side. Do you have one without all the big Oof flakes as mentioned? because that is my only nit as well.
