I have been trying to get a Nikon Super Coolscan LS5000 to work on a Vista 64 bit computer. Called the Nikon Help Center and the guy there eventually told me that Nikon did not have software supporting Vista 64 bit. Now, becuase this guy gave me the impression he had the knowledge and intelligence of a comquat, I thought I better ask here if anyone knows about this.
Hope to get this worked out as it looks like a good day for scanning.
Thanks for your help.

George, I think that is technically correct. I think I've read a few times that Nikon does not have a version of their software or drivers available in 64 bit.
Its kinda a bum deal that we need to keep old computers around to run scanners.
Ditto Mel. I have to use my daughter's e-machine to be able to adjust mine in the scanning process. I tried to use my scanner on my computer, which is still windows xp, but with 32 bit processing and it wouldn't work.
I ditto the same issue with my Canon slide scanner, it is not supported on Vista. If I need to use it (which is rare these days), I'll have to use it with my windows XP laptop.

If I remember correctly, Nikon offered an update for Vista 32bit OS, but not the 64 bit of XP or Vista.

Let me see. Nikon is still selling the LS5000 scanner. There are all kinds of 64 bit XP and Vista systems out there. Nikon doesn't offer the software for the systems. Yep, sounds like Nikon.
Nikon has been laying allot of folks off lately. I can only hope one of them is the guy that made this discission. If things go like usual though, he is probably getting a million dollar bonus.
I seem to remember from some forum that there is a generic software solution for this, but I can't think of the name of it, sorry! Maybe Tim Grey might know!

VueScan supports the Nikon LS5000 and I think it runs on 64-bit Windows systems.

I have been scanning slides every day, as I figured out that Nikon is not supporting the
Coolscan 5. When my windows xp computer is gone, I figure that I am out of the scanning business. I have been trying to get 50 years of family pictures scanned before I work on
scenery. I am not happy with Nikons attitude, but I guess they could care less.
